• Stent is a tubular structure made up of metal which implant in to the vessels of the heart which is affected.
• It designed to provide the mechanical support.this support enhance vessels patency over the life of the device
• First doctor insert the stent into the vessels and reach to the intended location then using different type of mechanism stent is expanded.
• mainly two types of stents are available in market
• bare metal stent
• drug eluting stent

Bare metal stent:

bare metal stents are made up of only metal.now a days cobalt chromium is used for preparation of stent.

Drug eluting stent:

Drug layer is coated over the bare metal stents this type of stent is known as drug eluting stents.

because of drug elution from the stent it prevent fibrosis,thrombi,clotting in to the blood vessels.

Stenting in to the Heart:

• a stent is introduced into a blood vessel on a balloon catheter and advanced into the blocked area of the artery

• the balloon is then inflated and causes the stent to expand until it fits the inner wall of the vessel, conforming to contours as needed

• the balloon is then deflated and drawn back

• The stent stays in place permanently, holding the vessel open and improving the flow of blood.
