Composition of transdermal patches

Transdermal dermal patches are consist of several component.
The common composition includes the following :

-Backing film

-Release Liner

-Pressure –sensitive adhesive

-Active ingredient  

-Permeation enhancer

-Other additives

-Micro porous or semi permeable membranes

-Pouching materials

Backing films:
Backing films play a critical role in the TDDS as well as during the use of the system.
To protect the active layer and safeguard the stability of the system.


Release liner:
A release liner is a film covered with an anti-adherent coating. To protect the system as long as it is packaged, and it is removed just before the adhesion of the TDDS to the skin.

Pressure –sensitive adhesive :
Serving the matrix that the carrier everything active additive and permeation enhancer.

Active ingredient  :
Are the main ingredients which have a potential impact on the body.

Microporous or semi-permeable membranes:
The porous membrane is a special kind of plastic film which is used in all liquid reservoir patches and in some matrix patches.

Pouching materials:

Most of the patches for use in a TDDS are packaged as unit doses in sealed pouches.The pouching material is therefore critical to the stability and integrity of the product.
