Integral Protein VS peripheral Protein

The differences between the integral membrane protein and the peripheral protein are in their function, location, and the nature of interaction with the lipid bilayer.

Following are the main difference between Integral Protein and peripheral Protein.

Integral Protein
Peripheral Protein
Location
Integral protein is embedded into or through the cell membrane
Peripheral protein is only located in the inner or outer surface of the phospholipid bilayer like an iceberg
Integral protein tightly embedded in plasma membrane
Peripheral protein are not tightly embedded in plasma membrane.
Removal
Integral protein is not easily removed from plasma membrane.
Peripheral protein can easily remove from the plasma membrane.
Percentage of protein
It about 70% of the total plasma protein
It about 30% of plasma membrane.
Known as
Intrinsic  protein
extrinsic proteins
Example
Insulin receptor, ion Chanel, gap junction protein

Polypeptide hormones
